A pair of six-panel screen paintings of a herd of horses in a field. Commissioned by a wealthy family from the old town of Tsuruoka, N. Yamagata Prefecture, N. Japan, they are copies of a style of painting of the Edo Period artist Kano Tsunenobu. The overall quality of the painting is good, with skilled brushwork and balanced proportions. Yet despite the fact that the artist's rendition is very accomplished, there is no doubt whatsoever that they are reproductions dating from the end of the Meiji Era and in good, original condition.
