 Wood Carvings
A full and complete set of 12 carved animals of the zodiac. Fashioned from individual blocks of keyaki wood, the pieces in this phenomenally rare group of carvings were originally decorative objects in a temple in Iwate Pref., Tohoku, N. Japan. At some point, decades ago, the building in which they were displayed was scheduled for renovation and all twelve were taken down and put into storage where they remained until one of the shop's great sources happened upon them. What a find!
