Ranma (transom panel)

A very unusual size and shape -- possibly used above a door in a hallway, in front of a small window, or maybe a stairwell. At any rate, the design is of an intricately carved pheasant in a peony bush.
Solid Keyaki.
Came from an old merchant's residence in Tsuruoka, N. Yamagata Pref., N. Japan. Meiji Era.
L 54.5 x H 64.5 cm
